Nike's .SWOOSH is a Web3-enabled platform designed to foster an inclusive digital community where members can discover, collect, and co-create virtual Nike products, like interactive digital shoes and jerseys
Launched in 2022, .SWOOSH serves as a hub for Nike's virtual creations, leveraging blockchain technology to offer unique experiences and opportunities. In the evolving world of digital collectibles, Nike Virtual Studios engaged us to explore the future of virtual artifacts.
We focused on how these items could look, function, and evolve over time. Our goal was to create scalable solutions for thousands of unique digital shoes, pushing design and technology to enhance engagement within the .SWOOSH platform.


Nike’s Air Force 1 (AF1) isn’t just a sneaker—it’s a cultural icon. From its roots in basketball to its deep influence on hip-hop and streetwear.
The AF1 has continuously evolved while staying true to its original essence. Our challenge was to reimagine this legendary shoe as a digital collectible, bringing its rich history and cultural significance into the Web3 space. We explored how to honor its legacy while introducing new possibilities unique to the digital world.
A key focus was exploring “living” colorways—dynamic textures, colors, and lighting effects that could evolve over time, responding to interaction, environment, or ownership. Could a digital AF1 change based on its wearer’s journey? Could it reflect historical influences while pushing into the future? These were the questions that drove our creative and technical approach.
To bring this vision to life, we experimented with vertex maps to simulate aging, allowing digital materials to develop character over time, much like a well-worn sneaker. We also explored materials that could animate, shift, and even emit light, creating a digital shoe that felt alive while staying authentic to the AF1’s iconic form. The result was a fusion of heritage and innovation, where the physical and digital worlds blurred, offering collectors and fans a fresh way to experience one of Nike’s most celebrated sneakers.
